MJ's Spring 2011 looks bright, shiny and lavish. Thoughts?

Gray and Black and Cozy
The fall seems to be all about gray, olive and beige. So here are my two cents on the grays: cashmere chunky-knit sweaters, wool mini, wedged Oxfords and a backpack (I pretty much switched to these for comfort, so making them stylish is a big bonus.) Voile!

Catalogin' the High Life
Neiman Marcus highlighted some of the holiday gifts from this year's Christmas Book on the Today Show this morning. Not sure if it's the recession or simply the diversity of offerings, but the gifts hit all the price points.
From the $250,000 houseboat:
To a $15 bedazzled wick trimmer.
Eh, so many options, so little time, right?

The 90's Kept Half The Shoe
Fashion-smashion. The retro trends are coming back so quickly, it's as if they never left. An interesting spin on the 90s staple -- Dr. Martens slip-ons? Ummm. Maybe not.

Bruschetta: Take One
My first attempt at an easy appetizer. Indeed, it was fast, simple and yummy. Ahh... tomatoes, baguettes, garlic, butter -- does it get any better? Recipe found here.
OK, I seriously cannot wait to make more of this tonight!

I Do Giada
Not sure why I was watching this show, but I saw Giada making her potato-tomato salad and thought it looked delicious. I have made it twice so far. No thyme this time (haha!) but just as tasty.
Recipe found here. I am hungry for it again!

Summer Comfort Treats
I was craving something that would be easy enough, filling enough and not too unhealthy. Stumbled upon these Cottage Cheese Pancakes on the Whole Foods app. Pretty delish, I have to say. And summery. Or wintery, whatever your season happens to be.

P.S. I don't use cooking sprays or Canola oil (the recipe calls for it.) I opted for organic extra virgin olive oil.

Arts & Crafts
When I started this, the goal was to become a great fashion blogger, the insider of all things "haute". Instead, this has become of collection of notes about what I buy or want to buy or what I have read in some brainless periodical or made in my joke of a kitchen. This time, however, I will write about fashion. FASHEEYON! I have been getting the WWD news alerts in my email for about three years, so it's about time I use that info up in this biAtch!
While I was buried under the NYC snow, somewhere in Milan, another Fashion Week came and went. No, I was not asked to attend any of the shows this year (to my surprise,) but I peeked at all of them via slide shows and various online postings. One thing is 'fo sho' -- knitting is gonna be HUGE! This Fall, everything will be knitted: shoes, bags, garments, undergarments. Let's take D&G for Fall 2010. I am pasting a few looks, but if you have the time to view the whole collection, be my guest over here.
OK, so here we have a few sweater-swimsuit variations, apparently appropriate for the office because these girls look like they mean business. The idea is rather absurd, yet I am fantasizing about a job when I could wear this and be simply "one of the girls who is into fashion." It could just be the models --everything looks good on if you are skinny. Or some genius behind the styling of the show that worked his magic to put together these 74 looks. A myriad details later, he had these chicks walking down the runway looking oh so comfy and cute. Forget the fact that it seems a-seasonal -- your arms and legs will be cold, but your back will be sweating -- I want me one of these onesies.

Made-Up Soup
Is it still plagiarizing if you put your own spin on it? When it's food, who cares?
I got the original recipe from here. I skipped the veggie broth and used almond milk (organic unsweetened low-fat original) instead of rice milk. I also added some spinach along with kale -- greenery is greenery and the more the better.
Voila! It may look suspicious, but it tastes delicious.
